- High: Celebrating Christmas in NYC
- Low: Not seeing Dan over Christmas – we always go our separate ways, it sort of stinks.
Since Dan and I wouldn’t be spending Christmas together, we celebrated on our own last week before heading to our see our families.
Our celebration included…
Brunch at Sarabeth’s
[My favorite spinach and goat cheese omelet]
Ice skating in Central Park [same rink as in home alone 2]
And roasting a duck! We were both really looking forward to this. Dan found some great instructions on how to roast the perfect duck [via The Hungry Mouse], and we spent 4 hours doing so.
Rinsing
Roasting
And finally…Eating!
We paired the duck with crispy smashed potatoes and a Chateauneuf-du-pape [a Grenache, syrah and mourvedre blend].
It was delightful. Because we scored the duck, much of the fat dripped out, leaving the skin crispy, which blended well with the tender meat. I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty impressed with ourselves. We had purchased some cupcakes from Two Little Red Hens, but we were too stuffed to even think about dessert [I know, can you believe it!]. So instead, we enjoyed the rest of the night watching one of our favorite Christmas movies, The Family Stone.
Talk amongst yourselves, I’ll give you a topic…Christmas movies. What are your favorites? Elf, Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story are obvious ones. White Christmas is my favorite classic.
